How Therapy Works

Every client is different, but here’s the typical process:

Phase 1

Initial Consultation

Free 15-minute call. Discuss situation, fit, and no obligation.

Phase 2

First Full Session

Explore your story. Understand what brought you, what you hope changes.

Phase 3

Active Work

Work on what you bring. Integrate evidence-based approaches—EMDR, Brainspotting, talk therapy.

Phase 4

Integration & Closing

When meaningful progress occurs, consolidate changes and plan forward.

Meaningful shifts: 8-12 weeks. Deep pattern change: 4-6 months. Trauma work: 3-6 months+. We adjust based on progress.

I combine evidence-based talk therapy with Brainspotting, Accelerated Resolution Therapy, and 30+ years of somatic trauma expertise. I work at both the thinking and nervous system level for real, lasting change. I’m direct, warm, and compassionate.

Weekly is most common. Some prefer every other week, and for more acute needs, some clients may come twice per week initially. That depends on your situation, financial needs and insurance coverage. We discuss this in your initial consultation and adjust as needed.

Sessions are 50-55 minutes.

Sadly, that isn’t uncommon. While no therapist is the perfect fit for everyone, my combination of compassion, humor, directness, along with warmth and compassion is often helpful when other approaches have not been successful. We can talk about what didn’t work before, how we can work differently this time, and whether my approach is a fit for you.
